Getting around

How to get around Lipari and the other islands

Visiting the other islands

If you are planning to bring a car to the island during the summer period, usually between June and September, the Municipality of Lipari imposes a minimum stay on the island of 7 days. You will also need a declaration that you are staying at Casa Ornella which you should keep in the
car. Outside this period there are usually no limitations.

On the island there are several local car hire places. Here you can rent cars, mopeds, electric bikes etc. If you are planning to rent a car or moped on the island for several days you should
book this in advance.

On the island there is a public bus service. The company providing this service is Urso (main bus station and ticket office in the ferry port).

There are several buses connecting Quattropani to Pianoconte and the port of Lipari.

The timetable changes depending on the time of year. Usually buses to and from Quattropani run from 6am until 6 or 7pm (tickets can usually be bought on the bus providing you have small change). There are no night buses serving Quattropani.

From Lipari port you can then continue your journey to other destinations such as Canneto, the beach of Valle Muria, the beach of spiagge bianche etc.

From the little harbour of Canneto you can also take a boat taxi to the various beaches around Lipari island.

In Lipari there is also a 24 hr taxi service. The main taxi hub is at the ferry port. You can also book a taxi advance.

From Lipari port there are several hydrofoils and ferries to and from the other islands.

In Lipari town centre you can also find several companies which organise daily excursions to the other islands and around Lipari.

Another very nice way of visiting the other islands or going around Lipari’s coastline is to hire a boat.

One of the main boat hire places is run by Lipari Service in Marina Lunga, close to Lipari Harbour.
